Florida offers a range of benefits for veterans that are separate from federal VA benefits. These state-level benefits are not automatic — you must apply through the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs (FDVA) using your DD-214 and proof of Florida residency. Updated for 2026.

1. Property Tax Exemptions

Florida provides one of the most generous property tax exemption programs for veterans in the nation.

Apply at your county property appraiser's office with VA award letter, DD-214, and homestead exemption application.

2. Income Tax Benefits

Florida has no state income tax — all income, including military retirement pay, VA disability compensation, SBP payments, and civilian wages, is completely free of state income tax. This saves veterans thousands of dollars per year compared to high-tax states.
